Kassim Ahmad di antara susuk paling menarik dalam jagat politik, pemikiran dan sastera negara. Beliau telah beberapa kali membuat gempar, misalnya pada tahun 1950an apabila mengemukakan Hang Jebat sebagai pahlawan melayu dan bukannya Hang Tuah;
